This year’s theme is “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!”
Each year, since 1922, Fire Prevention Week has taught the public how to prevent fires and stay safe in the event of a fire. This initiative was started in remembrance of the Great Chicago fire and, today, it is sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®). Fire Prevention Week is proudly the longest-running public health initiative in the country.
2024 Fire Prevention Week runs from October 6 through October 12, and it’s a way to continue fire safety education long after the elementary school fire drills are over.
Smoke Alarms Save Lives — If They Work
This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!”, is centered on educating the public about the importance of having smoke alarms and making sure they are functioning properly. AIE has nationwide certified technicians who are skilled in testing smoke alarms because we know that smoke alarms are only good if they work — and working smoke alarms save lives.
Throughout the week, there will be a focus on encouraging people to install, test, and replace smoke alarms. Participants in Fire Prevention Week will learn about best practices for staying on top of fire alarm safety, including testing smoke alarms monthly and replacing them after ten years or when they are no longer responding to tests.
